The Office of the CFO report 2025

How do you compare to your peers? Where are they placing their budgets? Which skills do they value the most? We surveyed 2,500 leaders (70% director or above) on the most pressing issues in the profession.

The headlines this year

Despite tighter budgets and economic uncertainties, opportunities for growth exist with smarter, customer-centric revenue operations.

  • The risk landscape remains varied and complex - however, businesses are broadly more positive about the outlook compared to last year.
  • Finance continues to evolve, with data and analytics playing an increasingly critical role. The growing skills gap presents a significant challenge which companies are trying to address.
  • Most companies are 2-3 years away from being able to truly leverage AI, despite broad excitement and optimism. Those that do will have a real advantage.

Drilling down

The report is split into four parts: a retrospective on the past year, predictions about the year to come, AI strategy, and the evolution of the role of finance.

Across each, we've offered commentary and analysis on the results - identifying trends across geographies, company sizes, industries, and more.
